Literary Doomsday Device
If you understand that Turing Test, Lillian, it only means you’re a lawyer, and lord knows you don’t want to be that.
This strip came about while I was reading the archives of the wonderfully blue webcomic Count Your Sheep. Occasionally within the strip they’d have “Childhood lessons #___” strips which I was inspired by, and ended up coming up with this little stupid.
Where this robot meme (and I mean meme in the “true” sense of the word- not just meaning an “Internet meme”, but it spreads the same way) comes from I’m not sure, but since I saw it in Mystery Science Theatre 3000 it qualifies as a meme/urban legend in my eyes. If it reaches MST3k, it has reached meme status. (That’s where I got the title of the strip, by the way- it’s a Season One episode, so it’s obscure- Crow speed-reads the Issac Asimov Literary Doomsday Device’s manual.)
For this comic, it’s good to be a geek. And to load on another reference, Lillian’s aside is a nod to my favourite FreeFall strip. Another strip where it helps to be a geek.
