Truth in Art

Uh oh. This is one thing I’ve always been paranoid about art. I dunno about any of the artists in the audience reading this, but my biggest school pet peeve was when you’re introduced to the class as “the kid who draws good” and some person inevitably wants a test of that skill and asks for you to draw them.

I hate that, for the same reasons it’s hard for people to draw humans (all people, not just “furry” artists.) We’re surrounded by people every day, we know instinctively what proportions the face and body should have. ESPECIALLY the face. Faces are very nuanced things, and you get one thing wrong and you can fall into the Uncanny Valley. But most of all, if you draw someone you and your viewing audience knows, and get the slightest thing wrong, EVERYBODY will see.

That, and if the person has traits they’d rather not have and you draw those traits true to life, you’ll get the above. :P
